SEATTLE, April 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Lockerz, a social commerce company with more than 18 million members worldwide, today announced the results of two recent polls of its Generation Z customers. Of the more than 40,000 responses to each question, most teens and young adults favor more investment in alternative energy sources, such as wind and solar power. The most common reported behavioral change based on the threat of radiation exposure is avoiding trips toJapan altogether.
Best Future Power Source
More than 49,000 Lockerz members selected from four options of the preferable power source for the future:
· 51%: Invest in wind and solar power.
· 24%: Nuclear is still the best and safest overall.
· 15%: Natural gas and clean coal are the most realistic options.
· 10%: We're not getting away from oil. Period.
Behavioral Changes Due to Radiation Threat
More than 44,000 Lockerz members said they had changed their behavior in one of the following ways due to the threat of radiation exposure:
· 30%: Canceled or avoided trips to Japan.
· 24%: Avoided eating sushi or seafood.
· 21%: Have taken potassium iodide pills.
· 13%: Turned down Japanese beer or sake.
· 12%: Added foods such as garlic, ginger or miso.
"Lockerz' 'Dailies' are one of the ways we keep our fingers on the pulse of Generation Z," said Kathy Savitt, founder and CEO of Lockerz. "The results are particularly compelling based on the very large number of respondents as compared to other polls, as well as the targeted demographic of 13 to 30 year olds."
The polls were conducted by Lockerz on March 31 and April 2 respectively, as part of the company's ongoing daily questions that address topics, trends and current events relevant to Generation Z (born between 1992 and 2010).
